Passenger transport

In the first half of 2022, 75.7 million passengers were transported by land passenger transport, i.e. 33.3% more than in the first half of 2021 and 3% more than in the first half of 2020, but 37% more less than in the corresponding period of 2019.

The number of passengers transported by rail transport was 6.9 million passengers, 46.4% more than a year ago and 12.8% more than in the 1st half of 2020, but 23 .1% less than the corresponding period of 2019 before the pandemic. The number of passengers carried by domestic transport increased by 46.3%, but the number of passengers carried by international transport – 4.8 times.

The number of passengers transported by regular bus transport lines is 43.2 million passengers, i.e. 32.5% more than in the 1st half of 2021 and 2.6% more than in the 1st half of 2020, but 38.5% less than in 2019. The number of passengers carried on domestic lines increased by 32.4%, but the number of passengers carried on international lines – 4 times.

The number of passengers transported by trolleybuses included 13.5 million passengers, an increase of 24.2%, but by trams – 12.1 million passengers, an increase of 40.7%. Compared to the 1st half of 2020, the number of passengers transported by trolleybuses decreased by 2.2%, but by trams – increased by 5.4%. In turn, the number of passengers carried by trolleybuses and trams, compared to 2019, decreased by 33% and 42%, respectively.

In the 1st half of 2022, 165.7 thousand passengers arrived and departed from Latvian ports, which is 65.8% more than in the 1st half of 2021, but 19.9% ​​less than in the 1st half of 2020 and 65.7 % less than in the first six months of 2019. At the passenger terminal in Riga, ferry traffic was still closed, at the port of Ventspils, passenger turnover included 129.8 thousand passengers, or 57.5 % more, but at the port of Liepāja – 35.9 thousand passengers, 2 times more than a year ago.

In the first half of 2022, 2.2 million passengers arrived and departed from Riga International Airport, which is 5.5 times more than in the first half of 2021 and 68.4% more than in the first half of 2020, but 37.5% less than in the corresponding period of 2019.

Haulage

49.5 million tonnes of cargo were transported by land and pipeline, up 1.1 million tonnes or 2.3% from a year ago and 6.4% more only at 1st half of 2020, but 13.5% less than in 2019.

Rail freight represented 12.1 million tonnes, or 17.8% more than in 1st half of 2021, 3.8% more than in the 1st semester of 2020, but 45% less than in the corresponding period of 2019. National freight by rail accounted for 0.7 million tonnes, or 6.8% less. In international traffic, the volume of freight transported by rail was 11.4 million tonnes, up 19.7%. Of which export freight transport – 1.4 million tonnes, 43.2% more, import freight transport – 8.7 million tonnes, an increase of 35.9%, but goods in transit – 1.3 million tonnes, 40.2% less. Compared to 1st In the first half of 2021, freight transport through Latvian ports accounted for 8.6 million tonnes, or 54.6% more.

37.2 million tons of goods were transported by road, 1.1% less than the previous year, but 9.4% more than in 1st half of 2020 and 10.2% more than in 2019. Domestic freight transport accounted for 28.9 million tons, or 1.3% more. International freight transport accounted for 8.3 million tonnes, or 8.8% less. Of which the transport of export goods accounted for 2.7 million, or 5.1% more. Import freight transport decreased by 1.6% and accounted for 1.8 million tonnes of freight. Cross-traffic and cabotage freights represented 3.8 million tonnes, 19% less than the previous year. 78.9% of total road freight was for-hire transport. They fell by 2.3%.

0.2 million tonnes of petroleum products were transported via the main pipeline, 60.4% less than a year ago, 76.4% less than in 1st half of 2020 and 86.8% less than in the corresponding period of 2019.

In the 1st In the first half of 2022, goods loaded and unloaded in ports amounted to 23.6 million tonnes, 15.3% more than the previous year and 4.2% more than in the corresponding period of 2020, but 27 ,1% less than in the first six months of 2019. Cargo turnover at the port of Riga was 11.3 million tons, 11.5% more, at the port of Ventspils – 7, 3 million tons or 25.4% more, at Liepāja port – 3.9 million tons or 15.2% more, but in minor ports – 1.1 million tons or 4.1% less .

Airport “Rīga” loaded and unloaded 11,000 tons of cargo, which is 11.1% less than in the first half of 2021, 10.9% more than in the corresponding period of 2020 and 17.6 % less than in 2019.
